Dear Zita,
Thank you, my dear friend and ENCOURAGER..
The GIFT of MUSIC is indeed one of the things that separates us, humans from other living creatures.
I would tell you though that ROSIE my rottie has exhibited a sensitivity to MUSIC, that I thought belongs only to us humans. When I blare my soulful Christian music or frolicksome Philippine dance music while I am running them at the Ramona Airport entry road, she synchronizes her movement accordingly with the tempo at hand. When I get off the van to join her dancing on the road, she gets so excited she rhythmically humps me. She is spayed. Could it be that the music excites her to some emotions we think only humans own?
I have video footages of the turtles and fish in our aquarium, seemingly dancing to the music I play while worshiping our CREATOR. They seem to have better rhythm than some people I know.
I have a video footage of a labrador wagging his tail rhytmically with a CHINESE parade music during a Chinese New Year celebration in downtown San Diego. When the music stopped, its tail halted.
Did not they say some animals have a 6th sense of perception? For example, did not the animals seem to have perceived the impending TIDAL wave a few years ago in Thailand hence was spared the tragic death the humans were not?
MUSIC is a gift from our CREATOR indeed. It is a means used by the LORD to speak to our 6th and most important sense, our SOULS.
King DAVID in the Old Testament used music and dance to worship, honor and praise our CREATOR with instrument and poetry sung in harmonious movement of the gift of the human body. There is something about the gift of MUSIC that titillates our body, mind and heart to harmonize with manmade instrument in gratitude and celebration of life and its CREATOR, the MASTER of LIFE HIMSELF.
When ROSIE, my rottie, jumps up to me to what a seeming desire to be intertwined with me, her master, I cannot help but see the innate desire in each of the human heart, to be one with its MASTER MAKER, transcending the physical senses.
MUSIC is created by the CREATOR to communicate to the human soul. (seal of approval from JESUS through my computer screensaver again..."JESUS LOVES YOU" Is this not musical synchronization of GOD's affirmation through the rhythmic timing of technology?)
Thank you, Zita for this reminder of one of the GREATEST EVIDENCE and TESTIMONY that our CREATOR is a GOD of ORDER, TEMPO and BEAT that uplifts the HUMAN SPIRIT to the GOD of our BODY, HEART and SOUL, at HIS melodious timing, rhythm and symphony.
Indeed, we all tend to be drawn daily to the follies and noises and humdrum of life, rather than the precious violinist and GOD's still small voice, in the harmony of HIS BLESSINGS. The cry of a newborn life.
The faithfulness of the universal clock of time in the daily rising and setting of the sun. The rhythmic functioning of all the systems in the human body and its habitat. The touch of a loved one. The daily bread. The daily hedge around our heart that give us victory of the soul over the enemy.
"JESUS LOVES YOU"...again...my screensaver insists to speak for my ULTIMATE CONDUCTOR of the ORCHESTRA of LIFE.
I love you too, LORD JESUS. Thank you for the GIFT of MUSIC.
I CHRONICLES 13
"8 Then David and all Israel played MUSIC before GOD with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed onstruments, on tambourines, on cymbals and with trumpets."
EXODUS 15
"1 Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and spoke, saying;
"I will sing to the LORD, for HE has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider HE has thrown into the sea!"
20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. And Miriam answered them:
"Sing to the LORD, f or HE has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider HE has thrown into the sea!"
P.S. Thank you, too, LORD JESUS for my ENCOURAGER friends like ZITA, and the creator of this reminder, who has ears that hear and eyes that see through the smog of daily grind and wake me up to the aroma, sights and sounds of your daily gifts...
THE VIOLINIST
A man sat at a subway station in Washington DC and started to play the
violin. It was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about
45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated
that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their
way to work.
Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was a musician
playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried
up to meet his schedule.
A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: A woman threw
the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.
A few minutes after that, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him,
but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was
late for something.
The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tugged
him along but the kid stopped to look at the violinist and listen anyway.
Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his
head all the time to look back. This action was repeated by several other
children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.
In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for
a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace.
He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one
noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.
No one knew this but the musician was, Joshua Bell, one of the foremost
violinists in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever
written... with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.
Two days before playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in
Boston and the ticket prices averaged $100 each.
Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the subway, was organized by the
Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and
people's priorities. The outlines were this: In a commonplace environment
at an inappropriate hour, do we even perceive beauty? Do we stop to
appreciate it? Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?
One of the possible conclusions from this experiment could be this: If we
do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the
world, playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we
missing?
