Our Jess in the Philippines / a Ramona country girl goes to the islands...
Good Evening all,
Thought I'd give you an update on our Jessalyn, as many of you already know she left last Wednesday for the Philippines to go help our missionaries from our church over there. Our church supports Nate and Megan Ingvoldstad and they have 2 lovely little girls Hadassah and Joanna. Nate and Megan will be serving the Calamian Tagbanwa Tribe on Barangunan Island in the Philippines. Yah, try to say those words 5x's fast! Jessalyn is there to serve and minister to what ever their needs may be, so that they are able to get a house built on the island. Once they get their house built, Nate and Megan will begin to set up curriculum to teach the tribal people how to read their own language, so that they then can share God's word, and share the gospel with them...having Jessalyn there is just a very small part of all that will take place in these next few years for the Ingvoldstads, so please keep them in your prayers, as some of these tribal people are very old and we are praying the Lord will spare them a few more years, so that they can hear the gospel, respond, and be in heaven some day with us all! I put out an original email to let some of you know what all has been happening in our family, but many more of you have emailed and been asking how it is going, so I thought I would make a group of ya, and email you all at the same time. If you wish to not be on this list, please let me know and I will take you off, no problem.
Anyways, Jessalyn set up a blog where she can track this journey, so far she has her testimony on it, and she will also be updating that periodically...the blog is in the beginning stages, but really neat to read about her journey. Once I remember what it is, I'll send it out???

She and the Ingvoldstads left Cal. Wednesday, landed in Hawaii for a day lay over and then were off to the Philippines. While in Hawaii, Jessalyn was able to take in a surfing lesson, of which she had a wonderful opportunity to witness/plant some seeds, to a native Hawaiian man. She was very excited about that. Loved the surfing, but is hopeful that the man will search out the truth about our Lord further. She also noticed the air was sweeter smelling over there. She got a bit air sick during the flight, going up and then again coming down, but felt better while in route. She said she did better from Hawaii to the Philippines.
As you go to the Philippines you actually lose a day, so in flight (they left Friday) they basically celebrated valentines day and then landed in the Philippines Sunday...kind of strange that they are experiencing tomorrow for us today. The flight to the Philippines went well and the Ingvoldstad girls slept most of the way, Nate, Megan and Jess watched several movies and tried to rest, but those seats aren't the best for sleeping when your tall. Over all they did well. We got a quick call to say that they arrived and then earlier tonight she was able to SKIPE us...this was very cool! For those of you that don't know SKIPE, it is a way of talking over the internet with a camera so you can see each other. What fun we had hearing about them eating breakfast and riding in these little bus-like taxis, called Jeepney's or something, and laughing as they talked about how their heads kept bumping the ceiling...Jess and the Ingvoldstads are all tall people. The whole Kattke Klan was very excited to chat with their sister, especially Annabel. It is hard to believe that they are clear across the world when it seems they are so close in that picture. God is so good to allow man to come up with such awesome technology! So other than they were going out to get some lunch, that pretty much sums up all that is going on. They will be in Manila a few weeks getting re-entry paperwork done, and then they will be off to Palawan (I could be misspelling that) which is a smaller island for the remainder of Jessalyn's stay there. Brian will be accompanying a group of men in April for 17 days to go over and help actually build their house...at that time, Jess may return home, but she does have an open ticket, and she is as of now, very open to whatever the Lord calls her to do.
It is such a joy to be sharing our lives with you all, and sharing the gift of a child with the world. Our prayer is that the Lord will use her mightily to glorify Him and bring many souls to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Many of you have asked how Brian and I are doing...we are actually surprisingly doing very well. The day we sent Jessalyn off, Brian had a training day, and his first class was on "Human Trafficking"...he called me and asked if I had already sent her on her way??? I said yes, then he told me, of course I laughed, but he is the dad, and him and his girls are very close...so the enemy was trying to plant seeds of worry. Then that night, he was watching the news and there was a tornado in the part of Hawaii they were in...come on, Hawaii??? I thought only that stuff happened to Dorothy in Kansas! Anyways, I keep reminding Brian to not allow the enemy to rob him of the joy of these precious moments, he does agree, but he is still her dad. Overall, the other kids are great, asking lots of questions about her, like "do they have toilets in the Philippines?" and "will she eat disgusting stuff there?" But overall they have all risen up to the occasion of taking over...each one of them has become more responsible in doing more than they usually do...even mom! Yes, I truly am a better person when Jess is not here serving and ministering to us all. She has always served with a joyful heart and has always just taken initiative. We have all been blessed and spoiled for many moons! But we actually do well when she is gone, and it is a great feeling to all pitch in and get it all done.
So with that, we are good...God is good...and we are looking forward to all that the Lord is going to do in this season of our lives.
May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may His face shine upon you all,
Until we meet again,
The Kattke Klan
Brian, Kay, Jessalyn, Joshua, Elijah, Rebecca, Seth, Ben, Tanner & Annabel.
